Explain to me again why railroad oil transport is safer than pipelines?

If the cars are DOT-111 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOT-111_tank_car) then 100 tank cars holding 131,000 L of oil with a total value of approx.

                     $53.74 * 100 * 131,000 ~=  $ 703,994,000

was allowed to burn out into the atmosphere around a town.

One burning car went into the river. Tell me that's different than pipelines.

Remind me again why this is better for the environment than a pipeline spill?
